Tyler Carpenter Triumphant in Topless 50 at Ohio Valley Speedway
Another packed house would welcome the regions best Las Trancas Super Late Models to the ‘Valley’ for a $5,000 to win 50 lap ‘Topless 50’ event on Friday Night, April 29th. A stellar night of short track excitement that would see some tremendous side by side racing and a well ran efficient show. A stout field of 21 Late Models would take time trials with Ronnie Mayle setting quick time with heat race wins going to Ronnie Mayle, Tim Dohm and Kyle Thomas. With the stage set for a terrific 50 lapper around the 3/8 mile paperclip speedway it would be Tim Dohm grabbing the early lead with a furious pack behind the Cross Lanes, WV driver. 6th starting Tyler Carpenter would begin an early ascent on the field and begin to pressure the veteran Dohm. Carpenter would make his move on lap 10 and wrestle the lead away. Once the ‘Kamikaze Kid’ was at the point all eyes were on the several battles being waged for positions back thru the pack. A game Jacob Hawkins would begin to reel in Carpenter and begin to apply relentless pressure. A couple late race caution flags would really make the restarts interesting with drivers utilizing every inch of the ‘Valley’ racing surface. When the checkered flag dropped it would be Parkersburg, WV’s Tyler Carpenter grabbing the popular hometown win and heading to the KMA Auto Victory Lane aboard the Airmax Heating and Cooling/ Kryptonite Race Cars #28 machine holding off a valiant effort by Jacob Hawkins, Tim Dohm, Rod Conley and the hard charger of the event Andy Bond.
In the Polymer Services UMP Modified feature event it would be the ‘Southside Flyer’ Kenny Johnson scoring his first win of the season at the Valley. The likeable driver of the Rob Webb owned Webb Motorsports/ Bazel Race Fuels/ OTC Industrial Solutions/ Octane Race Products/ Poske’s Diamond KT3 machine would hold off a host of talented open wheelers to secure the victory. Following Johnson to the pay window was Kyle Bond, Travis Dickson, Booger Garnes and NC’s Austin Holcombe.
Another week another win for one Kendall Hodge in the Pike Street Lanes Sportmod division as the Davisville, WV’ driver left no doubt when the Way Floor Coverings Green Flag dropped. The ‘Flattop Flyer’ would run a consistent race distancing himself from the pack to pick up his 3rd win of the season and remain perfect on the young season. Following Hodge across the stripe was Steven Dotson, Scott Alden, Sonny Leek and Cruz Vandall.
Another great field of 18 Bill’s Auto Salvage SCDRA 4 Cylinders would set sail looking for the KMA Auto Victory Lane. When the checkered flag fell on the last race of the evening it was Thurman, Ohio’s Chris Wise aboard the 6pac getting the win. Wise would become the 3rd different winner so far in 2022 in the highly competitive division. Wise pilots the Newfast Motorsports/ John Sang Ford/ Parkersburg Liquidations/ Strickland Sales and Service Ford Focus and was followed across the line by Patrick Willbarger, Jacob Hughes, Josh Ayers subbing in the S3, and Jamie Harper.
The youth league of auto racing would kick off the evening with Bryson Long remaining perfect on the young season by scoring his third consecutive win in the Mike’s Auto Body WRA Young Guns feature event. Following Long across the line was Bentley Parsons and Brandon Davidson. In the Veteran WRA class it was mini wedge veteran and dominator Mack Brookover securing another win for the talented youngster. Following Brookover was Kaden Sexton and Colin Knox. Trophies for the youngsters were provided by class sponsor Mike Martin of Mike’s Auto Body.
