KC Burdette Bags 14th Annual Greg Schilling Memorial; Tyler Carpenter Doubles Up at Ohio Valley Speedway
The Ohio Valley Speedway would play host to one of the speedway ‘crown jewel’ events, the 14th Annual Greg Schilling Memorial on Friday Night. A great crowd and packed pit area would see a fantastic night of racing action in memory of the late Greg Schilling. Highlighting the evening was KC Burdette who would nab the big prize of the night along with Tyler Carpenter and Kendall Hodge with double feature wins and Sam Dickel, Mack Brookover and Logan Perine also garnering trips to the KMA Auto Victory Lane.
In the 14th Annual Greg Schilling Memorial, a very stout field of 31 Polymer Services UMP Modifieds would take to the track. Danny Thomas would set fast time among the competitive field with KC Burdette grabbing the dash and Travis Dickson, Rich Michael Jr., and Coleman Evans picking up heat race wins. Burdette of Parkersburg, WV would outduel outside pole sitter Kenny Johnson to grab the lead at the races start and once out front the talented wheelman would roll to his second Schilling Memorial title. Following Burdette across the line was a very impressive Travis Dickson, New Yorker Rich Michael Jr., Coleman Evans and Kenny Johnson.
The Las Trancas Super Late Models would hit the track in a pair of feature events from an earlier rainout. The story was the same in both as Tyler Carpenter fresh off his NASCAR truck debut last weekend would park the 28 machine in the KMA Auto Victory Lane on both events. Following Carpenter in the make up feature were Andy Bond, Harold Redman Jr., Robbie Bostic and Josh Tonkin. In the regularly scheduled feature event Tyler Carpenter would have to outduel brother Chris Carpenter to nab his division leading 4th feature event of the season. Following the Carpenter brothers across the stripe were Jeremy Blake, Pete Crum and Ed Shuman.
A double header of Pike Street Lanes Sportmod features were on tap from the earlier rainout on June 10th. It would once again see Kendall Hodge go back to back in picking up the feature wins. In the make up event Hodge would best Pat Garrett, Matt Fizer, Toby Wilson and Ron Pickens. Trailing Hodge in the regular feature event was once again Pat Garrett, Sonny Leek, Montana Legg and Toby Wilson.
A wild Bill’s Auto Salvage SCDRA 4 Cylinder main event would see Jacob McDaniel look poised to pick up the feature win. But as McDaniel was holding off a game Jamie Harper and Randy Wise as the lead trio took the white flag, McDaniel’s machine would come up lame exiting turn two and collecting Harper and Wise. With the top three eliminated and a one lap shootout in store it was now veteran and defending track champion Sam Dickel at the point. Dickel would pick up his first win of the season ahead of Justin Carpenter in his season’s maiden voyage, Mike Tennant, Josh Ayers and Adam Miller.
In the Mike’s Auto Body Veteran WRA Mini Wedge division, Mack Brookover would remain perfect on the season as the talent would park his ride into the KMA Victory Lane for the third time in three appearances. Following Brookover to the checkers were Stephen Sutler and Avie Sprouse. It was the return of Ohio Valley Speedway’s 2021 WRA Mini Wedge Young Gun track champion, Logan Perine picking up the feature win ahead of Karson Burdette and Lane Pomas.
